The Five County Association of Governments is a voluntary association of local governments from the five southwestern counties of the State of Utah. The five counties in southwestern Utah that comprise the Five County Association of Governments are Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane and Washington.

2010 marks the 38th anniversary of the establishment of the Association, although informal cooperation amongst the five member counties and municipalities has happened for more than half a century. Farsighted leaders of the past envisioned the time when our world-class scenic landscapes, mild climate, beautiful communities and hard-working people would foster the evolution of a major regional center in the West. That time has arrived. Southwestern Utah has come into its own. The Five County Association of Governments is a key player in aiding locally elected officials in coping with regional challenges.

The Association has office locations in St. George City and in Cedar City. More information on the Association, including our Vision and Mission, as well as office addresses, can be found on the "What is The FCAOG" link on the "Information" tab above.

UTAH'S PATCHWORK PARKWAY CORRIDOR MANAGEMENT PLAN

State Route 143 which traverses the heart of southwestern Utah between Parowan City, up through the town of Brian Head, past Cedar Breaks National Monument and on over to Panguitch City, was just designated as a Federal Scenic Byway.  Prior to this new designation the highway was a State Scenic Byway and a U.S. Forest Service Scenic Byway.    The highway is now known as "Scenic Byway 143 - Utah's Patchwork Parkway".

Staff members of the Five County Association of Governments' Community & Economic Development Program worked intensely with members of the Corridor Steering Committee to produce a Corridor Management Plan (CMP) for this highway corridor which was a key part of the application for the federal designation. The Corridor Steering Committee adopted the Corridor Management Plan at their meeting on Adopted May 18, 2006 and was subsequently amended on November 6, 2008.

The Corridor Management Plan (CMP) is available for viewing on-line by following this link:   http://www.fcaog.state.ut.us/sr143.html
