REGIONAL NATURAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN UPDATE

FIVE YEAR PLAN 2010-2014

The Five County Association of Governments prepared an update to the regional Five County Association of Governments Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan (NHMP) that was developed and adopted by resolution of each and every town, city, county in southwestern Utah 5 years ago.

The Association's Community & Economic Development (CED) Program staff was tasked by the State of Utah to prepare the first 5-year update that, when adopted by a local jurisdiction, will enable that town, city or county to be considered a "participating jurisdiction" in this multi-jurisdictional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan.

By its formal participation it is thus eligible for applying for federal mitigation funds as well as being eligible for post-disaster mitigation in the event of a federally declared natural disaster.

The purpose of the Plan is to provide information on specific natural hazards in the region and provide citizens and elected officials the ability to prepare for and minimize the impact of natural hazards.

The "Five County Association of Governments Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan  Five Year Plan 2010-2014" was presented to FEMA for approvable status and on October 5, 2011 was notified that the plan (with requested changes and aclarifications made) was "Approvable".  St. George City was the first of the jurisdictions in southwestern Utah to adopt the Plan.  We have forwarded St. George City's adoption resolution to FEMA.  The date that FEMA receives their resolution will be the date that FEMA will declare our regional Plan an adopted date of the plan for ALL participating jurisdictions.  We will then have up to 1 year to obtain formal adoption resolutions from all of the other particpating entities.
