Population Projections |
The
CED staff has been involved in developing population
projections for each of the five counties and every city or town in our
region. Initially, the Governor’s Office of Planning & Budget
(GOPB) prepared county population projections for every year up to
2050.
Our assignment and challenge was to create projections for
each
town or city in each county that did not exceed the county total
provided by GOPB. To begin the process staff used formulas that
GOPB
has used in the past to develop city projections, realizing that these
figures were only a beginning point for discussion.
Staff then
met
with working groups in each county with representation from each
community. The purpose of the meetings was to review the figures
and
make changes where possible to reflect conditions that local officials
felt bear on projections.
These meetings were very
productive and identified factors, such as faster growth rates,
annexation practices, average household size, geologic &
topographic restraints, employment forecasts, etc. that influenced and
adjusted the figures we began with, in some cases. Some of those
changes increased the projections and others were decreased while there
were a few that did not change.
Printable
population projection sheets for the each of the counties and
cities/towns in southwestern Utah are available by clicking HERE.
