AGING &
NUTRITION SERVICES
Aging
services are provided under the Older Americans Act, a Federal law
enacted in 1965, which provides, through Area Agencies on Aging,
community planning, training, and services to assist older persons.
These programs are designed to assist older people to remain
independent and live in their own homes as long as possible, with
special emphasis on serving the socially and
economically disadvantaged.
There are a variety of services administered by the Area Agency on
Aging which are available through County Councils on Aging and other
subcontractors.

- Telephone Reassurance
- Long Term Care Ombudsman
- Congregate & Home
Delivered Meals
- Chore Services
- Respite Service
- Outreach
- Legal Services
- Aging Medicaid Waiver Program
- Information and Referral
- Recreation and Socialization
- Friendly Visiting
- The Alternatives Program
The Caregiver Support Program
provides:
- Information
- Assistance
- Counseling
- Support Groups
- Training
- Respite
- Supplemental Services
Aging and Nutrition Services
are available to all persons 60 years and older. In 2000 the 60+ population in the Five County area was
26,261 persons which was18.6 percent of the region’s total population.
